File Specs:

These are some general spec for sending us files. If you have any questions, call us at 800-238-8259

RGB color Mode, 8-bit color depth. Please don’t save as 16-bit color depth. Even if your image is B&W, and you have converted it to grayscale mode for other use, please convert to RGB before sending to the lab

sRGB color space. If they are saved with any other color space embedded, the printing results can be unpredictable. If you prefer to capture or work in an another space you should convert the final files to RGB and give them a final evaluation for color and density before sending to the lab

tiff or jpeg format, no Photoshop psds or camera raw files. As a matter of fact, the ROES software will only show tiffs and jpgs If the file is a tiff, it should be a single layer, flattened file with no extra color channels.

If saving as a TIFF, do not use LZW compression. Also, if you are using Photoshop 7.0, make sure that the Save Image Pyramid box is unchecked. Files saved with either of these conditions will not be printable. When saving as a JPEG, make sure that the Progressive file option is not selected. Progressive JPEGs, used in some web pages, will not be printable.

File sizes: Generally, we want the highest resolution, least amount of compression jpg your camera is capable of. Cameras will often use the words “large”, “fine”, etc. A jpg should be in the area of 1 megabyte or higher for proper printing. Tiffs are uncompressed but again capture at the highest resolution. Generally, jpgs are okay for the vast majority of work

DO not resize your files to the “correct” size. The software we use (Kodak DP2) has one of the best resizing algorithms – much better than Photoshop.

Do not crop your files – it’s too easy to loose resolution. Use the ROES software and you can choose how the file will be cropped without altering your original.

File names can contain ONLY alpha and numeric characters. Most other characters are NOT ALLOWED. Use an – (hyphen) or _ (underscore) to separate within a file name. DO NOT USE “.” (period), “,” (comma), or “’” (apostrophe). These files will be unprintable and subject to a $10 per file correction fee
